    NATO, Stoltenberg: In 2016 500 cyber attacks a month


    Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg has stated that during 2016 cyber attacks numbered 500 per month to the Alliance structures, marking an increase of 60 percent compared with a year ago.

    In an interview with the German "Die Welt", Stoltenberg said that most of the attacks carried out against the data network of the Alliance have been sponsored by state institutions.

    "I am extremely concerned about these developments. Cyber ​​defense will be an important topic at the next summit of NATO. Do we need to advance our efforts in this direction ", said Stoltenberg.

    The Secretary General has warned that cyber attacks can be extremely dangerous if affect power grids, health facilities and other infrastructure critical.

    Former Norwegian Prime Minister has also put emphasis on the possibility that hackers manipulate the data during election periods.

    He added that various member states of the Alliance have expressed concern that hackers may try to interfere in the election campaign, "undermining democracy".
