Barack Obama chose a special friend to call his last as president to a foreign leader, before Donald Trump was sworn and entered the White House.
In making the call on Thursday, former President Obama spoke with German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed that strong US relations are vital for Germany world order, in an implicit criticism against Trumpi.
Obama and his wife Michelle spoke with Merkel and her husband, Professor Dr. Joachim Sauer, expressing their "friendship between their estimates and the efforts to create a deeper partnership between Germany and the United States over the past 8 years," as the White House announced.
Former US leader and Merkel agreed that cooperation "was essential in ensuring a strong transatlantic relationship, an international order based on law and the protection of the values that have brought so much progress for humanity in our countries and around the world."
The former president also thanked Merkel for "her strong leadership, courageous and sustainable".
"Looking at eight years of friendship and partnership, the President noted that it was appropriate to call his last with a foreign leader was precisely with Chancellor Merkel, which wished the best in the future", informed the House White.
This reaction came after Trumpi issued a series of attacks against Europe and Merkel in an interview two European release simultaneously last Sunday.
