Independence of California, granted the petition for "Calexit"

The campaign to transform California into an independent state took legal support, as supporters of the idea already allowed to collect signatures for the petition "nationality of California" or otherwise known as "Calexit".

California Secretary of State Alex Padilla legally approved procedure on January 26. The organizer of the campaign for the independence of California's Don Sutton said the target is achievable, since California is now the "de facto" independent country within a nation.

He said that California has the finances and manpower to be independent. Almost 600,000 signatures needed to "Calexit" cast in a referendum in 2018 and depending on the outcome, there may be changes to the Constitution of the US state. Later, in another vote, if a referendum first wins, Californians will be asked if they want to leave the US. If California votes "Yes", this is the first part towards independence. The second comes from Washington, as movement must be approved by two thirds of the Senate and House of Representatives.

A battle lost, according to experts. The latter say that currently only 33% of California residents support the idea of independence and this number will decrease as the negative sides begin sharing disclosed.

Those who want to secede from the US say that California pays more taxes to the US budget and does not take it back so as to justify those services. According to the World Bank and the IMF, if calculated as an independent state, the economy of California would be the 11th in the world.
