South Korea, the boss of the "Samsung" escapes arrest

A court in South Korea has rejected a request by prosecutors to issue an arrest warrant for the head of the "Samsung", Lee Jae-yong.

The judge said Thursday that there was sufficient reason to arrest Lee, accused of bribery, embezzlement and false evidence.

Lee was awaiting the court's decision a few days and this must have been a relief for the moment.

Doubts raised against him were part of a corruption investigation, involved the Asian country's president, Park Geun-hye.

The electronics giant, which has repeatedly denied the allegations, responded in a statement saying that "the implications of this issue can now be determined without the need to arrest".

On the other hand, President Park is accused of abuse of office by, having favored a close friend, Choi Soon-sil, to provide millions of dollars in donations from large companies to its foundations.

Prosecutors suspect, "Samsung" paid 36.3 million dollars to provide government support for merging the two companies under its supervision.

"Samsung" has confirmed the commission of donations, but insists he has not asked for anything in return. The prosecution had declared Mr. Lee as a person suspected of committing a crime and had made an official request for his arrest earlier this week.
