    Operation against ISIS, 400 arrested in Turkey


    Over 400 people suspected of possible links with ISIS, have been arrested as part of a major operation to Turkish counterterrorism, in 6 regions of Turkey.

    About 60 suspected jihadists, most of them foreigners, were detained in Ankara, and 150 in Sanliurfa, near the Syrian border region, where police seized material linking the suspects with ISIS.

    Simultaneous operations, the result of many arrests took place in Istanbul, Gaziantep, Konya and Bursa.

    According to agents, some of the suspects were involved in plans to attack the country. Finding a rifle and several other weapons in the province of Smyrna, the Aegean coast, suggest, according to police, the plan for an attack there, was in the final stages.

    Ankara authorities indicated that at least 780 people in detention for alleged links with jihadist groups.

    Turkey launched a military incursion into Syria last August in support of Syrian rebels, in an attempt to oust militants from the border areas. The fight against the Islamic State was intensified after the attack that ravaged Istanbul New Year night, killing 39 people.
